What is Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is an umbrella term for a group of disorders which affect the brain and central nervous system.  CP is a non-progressive movement disorder due to an insult to the developing brain. “Cerebral” is derived from cerebrum which is Latin for brain and “palsy” is another word for paralysis or weakness. The causes of  CP are abnormal development of the brain or damage to the developing brain as a result of trauma, infection, infantile stroke or hemorrhage.  It affects body movement, balance, and posture.
